I attended bootcamps multiple times a week, did outdoor workouts, ‘watched what I ate’ and thought I was in decent shape and had a decent diet. I would lose a couple pounds, then gain a couple. My support system was great too, but I just couldn’t lose the extra lbs and get to my ideal size. I started seeing the transformations of those on the challenge and it gave me extra motivation, but I thought I could do it on my own and just needed to try harder. I did try harder and became stronger and workouts got a little easier, but I still wasn’t where I wanted to be physically. Finally, I gave in and joined the challenge in January 2016. I figured this would be a good time for me to do it since winter is when I am least likely to get in the gym and more likely to gain around 10 pounds. During the challenge, I realized I didn’t know as much as I thought I did about how much to eat and what to eat. I also learned that you can have really good foods and still lose weight and gain muscle. I found foods to substitute for foods that weren’t that good for me and now have a plan for a lifetime. I made it through a winter with not only avoiding my annual 10 pounds, but losing about 20! It felt really good to see my muscles starting to show, clothes getting looser and people around me telling I lost weight and looked great. I learned so much from Sean, Kendra, other challenge participants and mentors and I am thankful for the recipes, tips and motivation, because they definitely helped me make it through. Now that the challenge is over, I have been getting my workouts in and doing some 2-a-days because I still have work to do. I am tracking what I eat and using what I have learned in the challenge to apply it to my everyday life. I have a beach trip coming up and want to look great on my vacation and I am training to run a 5k this summer and want to do well. Joining the challenge was the best gift I could give myself. I am happier, stronger and healthier than where I was prior to January.
