SUCCESS STORY!!!

"I had always thought of myself as a fairly fit person.  I've been a runner for most of my life, starting with track in High School and College.  After taking about 8 years off, I started up again with a few 5k's here and there, soon graduating to half marathons, marathons and more recently, ultra marathons.  During the fall of 2014, I started training for my first ultra and decided to add in cross training.  I found Freight House through a few google searches, bought a groupon and then sat on it for at least one month.  The name alone intimidated me to no end so I kept waiting and waiting to go in.  When I finally went in for my first class in November of that year, I knew this was the place for me.  Everyone was extremely inviting and encouraging and I immediately felt like part of the family.

As I began to go to class more regularly, I started to hear about this "90 Day Challenge" that a few people seemed to be involved in.  As an endurance runner, I had it set in my head that I could pretty much eat whatever I want, whenever I wanted as long as I log the miles.  Yes, I put down a lot of miles during the first 4 months of the year and even finished a 46 mile run from KC to Lawrence (Brew to Brew) but did I feel okay during or after?  Not really...  I just wrote it off as thinking that is how everyone feels when they take on endurance running.  As the months passed, I continued to train for my biggest race to date in August:  The Canadian Death Race.  A 78 mile run through the mountains in Canada.  Needless to say, the outcome was not what I wanted.  Soon after returning from the Canadian Rockies, I slumped into a bit of a depression and completely stopped training all together.  No more long runs. No more Freight House.  Lot's more comfort food.

Again, the 90 Day Challenge kept tapping me on the shoulder.  I knew I needed to get back in the game in order to continue with my running goals, so I started to look into it.  I was a little worried because I had never been able to stick to anything for that long.  I even tried a 21 day fix at the beginning of the year and failed miserably!  I talked to Sean and Kendra a few times about it and when they mentioned the end date for that particular round, December 19th, I knew I had to do it.  With that date being my big 3-0 birthday, I knew I needed to make some changes and end the year on the right foot.  I had no idea what I was in for...

I went into the 90 Day Challenge thinking I was going to just lose some weight and feel great again.  Not only did both of those things happen in a big way, I also learned a ton about nutrition and how it affects your body during endurance running.  I was afraid going into the challenge that the lower calories would negatively impact my running but I was completely wrong.  During the 90 days, I was able to run 5 half marathons within one month, 2 of which were Personal Record's and 2 of which were back to back in one weekend.  I have never felt so great after racing than I did after those.  I had no idea until this challenge how much nutrition could influence your racing strategy.  It completely changed the way I look at food, especially while training.

Completing the 90 Day Challenge has been nothing but life changing.  I am so thankful to have a gym full of people that care so much about one another and trainers that really do want to bring the best out of every single person that walks through that door.  I am excited to take the things I have learned and use them to train for another 46 miles and Canadian Death Race!  Thank you Sean and Kendra for showing us all that we can conquer anything we set our minds to!
