Blog Post 08: How to hit your Fitness Goals and make them stick!!

Instant gratifications, it is something we all desire but is it sustainable??

How do we hit our fitness goals and make them stick? When something comes easy or is handed to you are you more likely to hold it at a high value or do you not hold as much value to it because it was something that came easily, almost like a gift. Think about when you first started earning money and you would save all your money to buy that one special thing you really wanted. Once you had what you worked so hard for you loved it, appreciated it, kept it close to you because you knew how hard you worked for it. This is the exact feeling you want when you are heading into a journey of changing your life and making a healthy change for the better.

When we think about getting in shape or losing weight our instant desire is to have it fall right off. Get ripped in 30 days or lose 10 lbs in 10 days. These would all be wonderful things but if you were at your desired weight in 10 days and hardly worked for it, it wouldn’t be something that you would hold at high value or take much appreciation for. It’s so important to think about this when we are on a journey to get in shape, change our habits or hit a designated goal. If you have been living a poor lifestyle for some years now and switch things up all of a sudden its crucial to set your mind right as well. Here are some helpful tips to get you started on a healthy journey and how to change your mind set and set goals that will be sustainable and last a lifetime.

• Set a small healthy goal: ex: I want to lose two lbs this week.

• Check in weekly and see if you are meeting your goals. If you are, Great! Keep trucking. If you are not then reassess and find out what is holding you back? Emotional eating, feeling undeserving, lack of will power, cravings, whatever it may be there may be some feelings or hurt attached to your actions. Look inward and self-reflect you may find some areas that need some healing and attention.

Research food that is nourishing and healthy. Find the foods you love and look for healthy alternatives so you feel satisfied.

• Look at this journey as a lifestyle change not just a diet for a big event.

• Making this journey your FRIEND and not your ENEMY. Love what you are doing and look at all the positives. It will keep you in a good state of mind!

• Think inclusive not exclusive. What can I add in my diet that is healthy and nourishing? Soon you won’t have room left for poor choices of food.

Accountability is HUGE!! Find a community of friends, workout partner or a coach to help push you and encourage you on your journey.

• Be Prepared!!! When we are least prepared we tend to just eat whatever is in sight. Prepare your food if you are low on spare time. Have snacks and food for on the go so have no excuses to make poor choices.

• Tell your friends about your lifestyle change. Let them be aware and hopefully they will support and encourage you along your way.
