Kate hits her goal losing 23 lbs while working 12 hr shifts as a nurse.
“I first found out about Freight House Fitness (FHF) on Groupon in September of 2016. I had graduated from nursing school a few months prior and I was ready to start making healthier choices in my life. The stress of nursing school had really gotten to me and I had developed some bad eating habits as well as packed on 15 pounds. When looking for a new gym, I wanted to find a community where I would be both supported and motivated to work harder than I would simply exercising on my own. FHF looked like a good fit since they offered group bootcamp classes at a reasonable price.
My first couple of months at FHF, my attendance was spotty at best. I continued to make excuses for myself to make not make it to the gym. Finally, when the New Year rolled around, I was feeling more defeated than ever. After the holiday season, I could feel that I had gained even more weight and I was contemplating whether or not to quit FHF altogether. Then, Sean the owner sent out an email that they were going to start offering more time slots for classes. The new 4:30 p.m. class would allow me to sleep during the day, wake up, go workout, and make it to work at 7 p.m. for my 12 hour shift. I decided then that I could no longer make excuses for myself. It was time to make a change. I knew that FHF offered fitness challenges because I had seen the transformation pictures online and the pounds lost by people in class up on our chalkboard at the gym. I told Sean to sign me up for the 90 day challenge and we started the second week of January.
Sean and Kendra outlined the plan in a way that made it easy to follow. They explained to us the process of counting our macros and allowed us to make our own recipes that met our macro goals. Right off the bat, there was a lot of autonomy in figuring out what foods and recipes would help us to meet our goals. This taught us the tools for making the best nutritional decisions early on. Throughout the program, our nutritional goals changed slightly from week to week which made it so our progress would not plateau.
The workouts at Freight House Fitness are and always have been killer. They utilize your time extremely well because you put it all out there for 30 minutes, and then you’re done. There are modifications to all of the workouts if needed so people from all different levels of fitness and with past injuries can complete them. I found myself feeling stronger as the weeks in the challenge went on. Pretty soon I could complete regular push-ups (something I couldn’t do before) and multiple sets of burpees began to feel good. By the end of the challenge, I was doing 2 workouts a day 5-6 days a week. It became a part of my day-to-day.
Did I follow the challenge to a T? No, I didn’t, but I followed it very closely and saw some awesome changes as a result. The 90 challenge at Freight House Fitness has turned my life in a better, healthier direction and I am so thankful for it. Moving forward, my fitness goals are to see my abs and be able to do a pull-up. I know that as long as I live in Kansas City, I will be blessed to have the community of Freight House Fitness to motivate me to live my healthiest life.” – Kate
